The establishment of the department of English & Applied Linguistics in the mid of year 2007 was no
less than a miracle because the foundation of the university itself came into existence only at the
closing months of 2005 with a humble beginning of merely few walking and talking figures of faculty
and staff members running two nascent institutes with meager procurement of basic facilities.
However the zeal of the pioneers of the university embalmed with the generous efforts and bold
patronage of the founder Vice chancellor Prof.Dr Asmatullah Khan, the university has been uplifted
to the status of role modal university with quality assurance, market credibility and a growing seat
of academic excellence, the present academic tempo of which has become a source of envy for sister
institutes of the region. The university is now fast growing , producing and nourishing various
limbs on account of its truly laid foundation. Among such offshoots is the department of English
which has very recently been inaugurated in order to harbour literature and language loving
students of the area, English being the “Lingua franca” among the languages of the world.
The rationale of opening a department despite all hazards was to meet with the dire need
of English in the light of its avowed significance both in language as well as in literature
in order to understand speech and to discover the depths of life respectively.
